A brief history of Dan McCafferty Remembering Dan McCafferty, the iconic lead vocalist of Scotland's legendary hard rock band Nazareth, born October 14, 1946, in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. With a career spanning over five decades, McCafferty's distinctive voice and captivating stage presence helped shape the sound of rock music, with hits like "This Flight Tonight" (1973), written by Joni Mitchell, and "Dream On" (1982), written by Billy Rankin and Manny Charlton. As the band's lead vocalist from its formation in 1968 until he retired from touring in 2013, McCafferty left an indelible mark on the rock music landscape. Eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1996, his legacy continues to inspire new generations of rock fans. McCafferty passed away on November 8, 2022, in Scotland, due to complications from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), leaving behind a net worth of approximately $4 million, which was inherited by his family.
