Today's question comes from user ni200v: "In a discussion I once had with a modern secularist (who nevertheless yearned for a return to greater virtue and responsibility among common people), I mentioned that I couldn't think of any example from history in which a society that had already opened itself to acceptance of natural vices spontaneously reversed course, without an instigating crisis of social upheaval or violence. Later, I thought back on the efforts of Caesar Augustus, and I wonder, would Dr. Esolen or others consider this an example of just such a scenario? Sadly, my education/training has been in the natural sciences, leaving me somewhat deficient in matters of history. Was Augustus successful in his attempts to restore greater traditional virtue in Roman society, and if so, are there lessons in his victory that could be applied to the revival of our own, modern society in the US?" Here is a video from Dr. Esolen tackling these questions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apply to Thomas More College: https://thomasmorecollege.edu/apply/s...
