Israeli forces clash with ultra-Orthodox protesters

Ultra-Orthodox Jews took to the streets in Israel to protest attempts to draft the Haredi community into Israel's military. Netanyahu's government has repeatedly resisted efforts to conscript Israel's ultra-Orthodox community into the military despite the strain on Israel's manpower after nearly two years of war. Haredi leaders have called for a global day of prayer and fasting on Thursday to protest conscription. Their efforts come as Israel's military has said 60,000 reservists will be called up to serve in its new plan to occupy Gaza City, one of the last main population centres in the destroyed strip.
