Month four of my garlic in containers experiment is where things finally get interesting. In this update, we’re seeing the first clear signs of scape development, which marks a major developmental shift for garlic. I walk through closeups of the plants, show how to tell a scape from a leaf at this early stage, and compare how garlic is progressing across three different container sizes. One of the biggest takeaways so far is how container volume impacts development over time. While the smaller pots showed strong early leafy growth, the larger containers are now reaching the scaping stage sooner, suggesting root space is becoming the limiting factor. This episode focuses on: Identifying garlic scapes vs leaves Comparing 1-gallon, 2-gallon, and large container performance What scape timing tells us about plant development Early conclusions about minimum container size A preview of how nutrition may shift as bulbing approaches We’re not harvesting yet, and conclusions are still forming, but clear trends are starting to emerge. The next update should take us fully into the bulbing phase. 👍 If you enjoy learning alongside me, hit Subscribe and check out my other gardening videos. Every season is a new lesson!
