WHY I AM A SOLITARY WITCH: Working alone - the pro's and cons

What does it mean to be a solitary witch? I get this question a lot from people so thought a little video about what it means to me and why I work as a solitary. So if you have questions, are not sure if this is the right path for you – I hope this helps. A solitary Witch means that your magical practice and rituals are performed solo. You are not part of a group, coven or organization. You get to design/create and perform them. You are 100% responsible for your practice. Its complete spiritual autonomy. I became a solitary because I wanted to create my own magical spell work and rituals. I wanted to choose what I did and when I did it. I wanted to explore many forms of witchcraft and find my truth. I wanted to practice and I wanted to take charge of my own learning. I loved the absolute focus that working solitary gave me. It is my own personal brand of magical practice. Some people choose to work solitary because they are unsure or fearful about living openly as a witch or earth based practitioner. I get it. Not everyone is supportive of this life style. I have had some interesting conversations with family and friends over the years. If this is you, I would recommend finding a few people who share your beliefs. Go to the places where these people are likely to frequent like local metaphysical shops, metaphysical fairs etc. Find out what is going on in the area where you live and join in. Find some like minded people you can chat to and maybe even develop friendships with. There are challenges to working as a solitary. If you are new to the practice and a solitary it can be hard to learn. Having a mentor or a group to learn from can be really helpful. But you don't have to go full coven to find those key people in your life. I have benefited from the mentorship of many magical practitioners, from a wide variety of paths. Consequently, my practice is quite eclectic. What I have relied on in my learning journey is trust in my intuition. You can just feel if something doesn't resonate with you – it doesn't mean its wrong necessarily, just not for you. Anything that doesn't resonate I let go and the things that do resonate, I test out for myself. I experience it for myself and if I like it – I incorporate it. This is the same if you read something in a book or watch a video. Remember, magical practice is a practice. You have to do it, not just hear or read about it. Some solitary practitioners get lonely in their practice. That's why many solitary's take opportunities to come together to share ritual from time to time. This can be around the wheel of the year celebrations or moot gatherings. And in this day and age, these gatherings can be online even. This is a struggle for me. I am work in progress. I still get overwhelmed by such gatherings. In this lifetime I am on a journey of community and connection. I have witnessed many past lives and been taken to the point of transition. In each life I have died alone. This theme has impacted me profoundly and I am trying to change this in this life. However, I do have a tendency to isolate myself – so as I say, work in progress. As I mentioned before, I have benefited from some great mentors in my life and still do. Having a couple of people you trust who you can ask questions of, share thoughts with and check in with once in a while has been really important in my solitary practice being successful for me. My path as a solitary is joyful, fulfilling and beautiful. Whether you choose this path or not – the point is you get to choose what is best for you.
