Serbian protests continue despite prime minister's resignation

Serbia’s populist prime minister Milos Vucevic resigned on Tuesday in an attempt to calm tensions and relieve pressure on the government in the face of mass protests against alleged official corruption and deadly negligence.  The collapse of a concrete canopy at Novi Sad railway station in November, killing 15 people, became a flashpoint for wider discontent at the increasingly autocratic direction Serbia’s leaders have taken recently. Protesters have claimed that the Chinese consortium responsible for renovating parts of the station at Novi Sad had bypassed safety regulation with the assistance of corrupt officials.
