(16 Mar 2022) LEAD IN: A look at the town of Amedi, in Iraq's Kurdish region, which doesn't grow or expand due to its location on a mountain plateau. STORY-LINE: Built on a maintain plateau about 1,200 meter above sea level, the town of Amedi, in Iraq's Kurdish region, doesn't grow. The 3,000-year-old town, located in Dohuk province, is filled with narrow alleys and houses that are built with large stones. Residents of the town say new generations who are born in Amedi must leave it when they grow older because there's no place for them. Currently, the town is home to about 5,000 inhabitants. Centuries ago, and due to its location, Amedi was a point of trade with the city of Mosul, which is one of the largest and oldest cities in Iraq and the region.
