Weed Sprayer Train in Action! Gotta Kill Those Weeds!

By late spring, weeds are popping up everywhere after a heavy rainy season, so this train comes along to sprays the tracks to stunt their growth. Pulled by a Dash-9 running long hood forward, the sprayer moves along at 30 MPH on the Norfolk Southern Harrisburg Line between Reading and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This train consists of a box car "spacer", tank cars for water, and an old box car converted into a spraying machine which houses a crew and the herbicide supply. I caught the train at Richland (0:05) where they were just lightly spraying, then got ahead of them at Prescott (0:55) where there were plenty of weeds to destroy—they laid on the spray pretty hard here (1:35). This is the first time I've seen a train line this, but many railroads across the country run these in late May / early June. If you like this video, subscribe!
