We gathered at Serena Kigo to celebrate Barnabas Tumusingize’s incredible 36-year journey at S&L Advocates. Barnabas joined the firm in 1989 as a legal assistant and, through dedication and excellence, rose to partner in 1994. He established the Banking & Finance department, now one of Uganda’s leading financial legal practices. After the retirement of the founding partners in 2005, Barnabas became Managing Partner, guiding the firm through generational transition and into new growth. Under his leadership, S&L joined DLA Piper Africa in 2010 and completed its permanent home, S&L Chambers in Nakasero in 2015. Barnabas strengthened the firm’s structures, succession, technology readiness, and client portfolio, leaving behind a resilient, future-focused business. In his farewell remarks, he thanked God, the founders, clients, partners, staff, and DLA Piper, assuring continued excellent service from the strong team remaining. He reminded us that leadership is temporary, quoting Sunny Bindra: “When your time is up, blow the whistle yourself and walk away while they’re still clapping.” Walk with us through his journey.
