Totem and Taboo Chamber Opera after an episode in Freud's Text

This is a chamber opera for Heldentenor and Grand Orchestra in Playback. That means the music is pre-recorded and someone sings along to it. It's based on a story Freud invents in his book Totem and Taboo which deals with the origin of incest taboos. In fact, his story is an attack on Christianity and especially the sacrifice of the Mass. The composer, who is Catholic, would like to clearly state that he does not agree with Freud's analysis but that he found the story to be at once both absurd and hilarious and, since these qualities are what he looks for in opera librettos, he adapted in for an opera. Ideally this work would have been sung by Lauritz Melchior, the great Danish Heldentenor. But since he has been dead for years and since no Heldentenors were to be found here the composer sings the work. This work has been performed in Paris, Berlin, Bergen and elsewhere.
