Three years ago, I made a solo trek to Etiwanda Peak and put the video on YouTube. I pushed myself so hard that I threw up and was not thrilled to do it again. Then someone saw my video and said they were going to try and I figured I would try again one more time with Ryan @misadventuresofmurph to see if I could have a better outcome. This time I took lots of Vitamin Waters and food to refuel and I walked at a steady pace with no strenuous running. The pack on my back made that difficult to do anyways. We walked the entire trail up getting a refresher about what areas still need trail maintenance. For the past two-ish years, I have been volunteering my time to work on this trail before it is lost and the legacy of this beautiful place becomes largely inaccessible. The trees will come back and the hiking community will be blessed to have this sanctuary. It is rugged and somewhat of a no-man’s land, and for people like me, these are the places I need the most, where I can get away from it all. So, Ryan and I set out on this bushwhacking adventure with ticks, ants, a thorn extraction from the whitethorn chaparral, and an awesome peak experience. I left my pack two miles down the trail from the peak to carry less and once at the peak nature called...and when nature is calling, I must go...but all I had were pine needles and a stick. Talk about butt chaffing! And I will also say, going downhill on inclines messes with my toes so I was hobbling like a penguin half the time down Etiwanda Ridge. I feel like I’ve lost my mojo 😭 I use to fly down washes and hop down Etiwanda Ridge like a mountain goat...I will be taking it alittle slower from now on. We finished though, and that’s what matters, about 16 hours later (4AM-8AM). If you ever want to do this challenge I suggest making sure Etiwanda Ridge is not overgrown and do pre-maintenance checks prior to attempting E2E2E. The Big Tree Trail/Cucamonga Peak Trail from Joe Eliot needs some work as well and we had to trim some of the bushes, so loppers, bush shears, and a hand saw are recommended if you don’t want to get poked...and you still might get poked like I did 😬 Hope you enjoy seeing our adventure!
