In this video I prototype a domed lid for a hexagonal box. V-Carve Pro was used to create a moulding toolpath around the hexagonal shape of the box. Clamping is done with custom vacuum pods that were 3D printed. Lessons learned on this prototype is to leave more material left on the top for sanding. I did notice some of the side wall showing on the top after sanding which I probably could have avoided if I did not use a power sander. I am sure to get comments about gluing cross grain to long grain. This was intentional as I wanted to determine if this was acceptable for a short span at a 30 degree angle across the grain. Only time will tell if the results are acceptable. The pattern cutting jig used at the beginning of the video is an Aigner Sawboy. I have heard this may no longer be available however, a shop made jig from your favorite sheet goods would suffice.
