The Hirshberg Foundation was pleased to have Dr. Jon King join us at the 19th Annual Symposium on Pancreatic Cancer to discuss the evolving nature of surgical treatments for pancreatic cancer. Surgery has been a cornerstone of treatment for pancreatic cancer that has not spread beyond the primary tumor. Although removing most pancreatic tumors is complex and was associated with poor outcomes decades ago, advancements in pancreatic surgery over the past 40 years have made these procedures reliably safe for nearly all patients. Recent innovations have introduced minimally invasive techniques, complex vascular resection and reconstruction, and enhanced recovery protocols following surgery into routine clinical practice. In conjunction with effective chemotherapies often administered prior to surgery, more patients are candidates for surgical intervention today than ever before.
