Room with a View. Angelo's latest invention helpfully 'recycles' Katy's £20 notes into a toilet roll, so he and Mike turn the house into a holiday hotel in order to replace the cash before they're discovered. They only need one client, and a hapless businessman fits the bill perfectly - until Katy returns home unexpectedly. Will they get away with it? This episode was first broadcast on Thursday, 15th January, 1998. I've spotted a few little nods to Fawlty Towers dotted around many of these writers' shows, but this particular episode crosses brilliantly into full-on tribute territory as they pay homage to John Cleese and Connie Booth's all-time classic. Seriously, if you're a fan of the show, you'll pick out loads of little references in this one - some obvious, some relatively obscure, but all natural and never shoe-horned in. I think special praise is due for Tim Whitnall, who is excellent as the Basil-esque manager, and somehow manages to inhabit both that character and Angelo simultaneously. A real tour de force. The hapless punter who just wants a good night's sleep is played by Colin Farrell - not that one - who has credits in Oh! What a Lovely War, Dramarama, Henry's Leg, The Bill, Heartbeat, EastEnders, Last of the Summer Wine, A Touch of Frost, and even I'm Alan Partridge (a worker at Pear Tree Productions) to his name, among so many other things. I have to admit I was caught completely off-guard with the police inspector section, which he acted out very well indeed. Made me laugh, anyway. Many thanks to Grant for providing this recording.
