“It’s been 40 years since the inception of MedSTAR Transport. Over those 40 years this program has grown and grown and grown and has become a remarkable value to the community.” M. Joy Drass, MD, Inaugural Medical Director, MedSTAR Transport, served on first flight July 3, 1983. From its first flight in 1983, to transporting severe burn patients after the terrorist attack on the Pentagon and helping to navigate our communities through the COVID-19 pandemic, MedSTAR Transport has been a critical resource to our region. Since 1983, MedSTAR has treated and transported nearly 100,000 patients for advanced care across a wide spectrum of specialties including cardiac, organ transplantation, acute stroke intervention, trauma and NICU/complex labor and delivery.
