My ‘Textualis Quadrata’ (TQ) is a geometric construct based on in-depth study of manuscripts like the Bedford Hours and the Zwolle Bible. The idea behind my TQ was s simplified script with no nib angle changes, just simple plain writing. Hairline strokes are kept for split serifs, jots on the ‘i’ and direct strokes off the ‘x’ and ‘r’. You will not see a hairline stroke used to connect downstrokes to quadrants as there is too much guesswork there. Once you understood how the system works, it gives you a framework upon which you can graft any historical quadrata, semi-quadrata or prescisus. It is an excellent starting point for learning Fraktur as the TQ straight quadrants and lozenges become curved ones in Fraktur. I don’t use the word ‘diamonds’ in any description as I find this work more apt to Arabic due to it narrower, longer quadrant shape. I love this script and have seen it help so many students grappling with Gothic Scripts.
