At the Achievement Centers for Children in Westlake, three-year-old Immy Synk's infectious smile lights up the room as she works through her therapy sessions. Behind that smile lies a story of determination, perseverance, and a mother's pursuit of answers. Beth Synk knew something wasn't quite right when her daughter hadn't reached typical developmental milestones at nine months old. Immy wasn't rolling over or sitting up, but initial medical tests kept coming back normal, and doctors frequently dismissed their concerns. Just before Immy's third birthday, the family finally received an answer: Angelman syndrome, a rare neurogenetic disorder causing global developmental delays. The diagnosis left them wondering if their daughter would ever walk or talk.
