Elizabeth I cultivated a strong image of herself in her portraits. We will never know if the dress depicted in the Rainbow Portrait from c.1600 was real or worn by the Tudor monarch, but it's likely that at least certain elements of it were from her wardrobe. In this video, our historical dress interpreter gets dressed as Elizabeth I would have done if this iconic outfit were real, from her linen shift and petticoats, to her mantle and pearl jewellery.
