India Today: Nepal Youth Protest Explodes: 16 Dead, Govt Silent On Social Media Ban

Protests in Nepal have turned violent, resulting in the death of at least 16 people and injuries to more than 100 others. The demonstrations, initially sparked by the government's directive for social media platforms to register, are reportedly fuelled by deeper, pent-up anger among the nation's youth regarding issues like opportunities, education and corruption. Security forces have used lathi charges, water cannons, and tear gas, with reports of shots being fired. A government representative suggested the possibility of "infiltration" in the protests and stated, "it's very unfortunate to have like 16 people died in the all the peaceful protests." While the Prime Minister has called a cabinet meeting, an official government statement has not yet been issued.
