Short scale, standard scale, or all of the above? An increasing number of modern guitar builders are employing a multi-scale fan fret design, and we are loving the results. While the concept is still relatively fresh in the guitar world, it's been used for a long time on a variety of other instruments. By combining a shorter scale on the treble side with a standard or long scale on the bass, luthiers are able to optimize the tonal response in all registers, while the fan fret design provides ergonomic benefits for the player.
