New York scored a whopping 28 more runs in the series than the Buccos, easily the Fall Classic's best run differential ever seen through its first 120 iterations-and-counting. They had a legend -- Mickey Mantle -- come through with one of the greatest individual performances ever seen in a World Series. They had a, uh, non-legend -- Bobby Richardson -- also come from out of absolutely nowhere to produce one of the greatest individual performances ever seen in a World Series. It was an embarrassment of riches. And yet. Somehow, someway, against all odds, those Yankees managed to band together and pull off the Herculean task of … not even winning the series. Uhh, what?
