On this trip, we set out from Nahuatan Town and drove deep into the heart of the Qinling Mountains. This is a classic stretch of mountain rural road, showcasing the distinctive landscape and ecology of the southern slopes of the Qinling Range. At the beginning, the terrain is gentle, with terraced fields and scattered villages on both sides of the road. As the elevation rises, the mountains grow steeper and the scenery more dramatic. Here, the landforms are not towering or forbidding, but rather the rolling, solid, and lush contours typical of the Qinling’s mid- to low-mountain region. Along the way, the route passes through a series of ancient, unspoiled villages nestled among the valleys. These settlements are built beside streams and hillsides, with stone-walled houses and wooden beams that have stood for generations. Many still preserve the traditional lifestyle and rustic charm of the Qinba region. You’ll often see corn drying on balconies, wood piles by the roadside, and clear mountain springs running through the villages — a vivid glimpse of everyday life in the deep Qinling Mountains.
