The cooperative movement in Pakistan has evolved significantly from its inception during British rule, aimed primarily at aiding small farmers through low-interest agricultural credit. Post-partition, the movement diversified but faced operational challenges, which resulted in governmental restructuring efforts to bolster its efficiency and effectiveness. Key legislative reforms throughout various periods, including the establishment of the Federal Bank of Cooperatives, have aimed to enhance the role of cooperatives in agricultural support, ultimately facilitating substantial growth in agricultural credit availability. Key Points The cooperative movement in Pakistan began under the Cooperative Credit Societies Act of 1904, intending to assist small farmers with agricultural credit. The All India Cooperative Societies Act of 1912 expanded the movement's scope to include federated societies for better financial and administrative support. Significant commissions, such as those led by Sir Edward Maclagan and R.G. Saraiya, emphasized the importance of education for cooperative members to enhance the movement. Post-partition, the cooperative sector expanded into commercial activities, providing vital support in processing, procurement, and distribution, albeit facing mismanagement issues. In the late 1950s, efforts were made to unify cooperative movements across provinces to streamline operations and enhance service delivery to farmers. The Cooperative Societies Reforms Order of 1972 introduced crucial regulations to limit membership in cooperative banks and redefine managerial roles within the movement. The establishment of the Federal Bank of Cooperatives in 1976 aimed to provide pivotal financial support to provincial banks and facilitate cooperative credit disbursement. #PakistanCooperatives #AgriculturalCredit #CooperativeMovement #RuralDevelopment #FarmersSupport #FinancialInclusion #CooperativeSocieties #EconomicEmpowerment #SustainableAgriculture #CommunityDevelopment #EmpoweringFarmers #Microfinance #SocialImpact #NonProfit #DevelopmentPolicy #PakistanAgriculture #CooperativeBanking #FarmersRights #CooperativeEducation #economicgrowth Like our Facebook page: / css-club-103164574710387 Join our Facebook Group: / cssclub.com.pk
