We bought a traditional Japanese house in Yokohama and we’re finally getting close to move-in day. After leaving Canada to start over in Japan, we found an older home full of history and character. Before moving in, we decided to do a few light renovations — replacing tatami flooring in two rooms, updating wallpaper, and preparing the yard for our dog, Eleven. This house was custom built decades ago and the original owners entrusted it to us after many years of living here. It’s not an akiya, but an older, well-maintained home in the Yokohama area that we feel incredibly grateful to call ours.
