Join us as we return to the Citadel of Blaye—Vauban’s mighty 17th-century fortress guarding the Gironde estuary near Bordeaux—and enjoy lunch at the charming bistro Le Gavroche! This Citadel, built by the legendary military engineer Vauban, was designed to protect Bordeaux from English piracy and naval attack. It forms part of a powerful triad with Fort Médoc and Fort Paté on the river. We first visited in 2021 and loved the relaxed bistro scene under parasols at Le Gavroche, so we came back during our 2025 road trip - this time we only filmed the restaurant. 2021 was our first time filming (shakily) on the road and at a restaurant. Although the footage isn’t perfect, it’s where our filming journey began.
