Dedicated to everyone who loved the crap out of these books as a preteen in the late 90s. Tumblr: http://stephantom.tumblr.com/post/438... There are some rough spots in this that I wish I'd done better (maybe someday I'll redo it), but on the whole, I'm pretty happy. One thing to note: the cast is not meant to suggest a possible real cast for a possible real show/movie, since these clips are taken from different points in time and the actors vary widely in age. That said, the "cast" is as follows. Jake: Gregory Smith Cassie: Keke Palmer Rachel: Evan Rachael Wood Tobias: Andrew Garfield (young Tobias = Max Charles) Marco: Tyler Posey Minor characters (in this vid) Ax: Jesse Williams (not actually a minor character, but he ended up as one in this vid, partly because I had trouble casting him. Jesse Williams is too old (Andrew Garfield is really pushing it too, I know) but, whatever, he's beautiful in exactly the way I imagine Ax being beautiful. It's just too bad he never did any stupid high school movies.) Tom: Chris Evans (...mainly because it amuses me to use Cap' America, who is totally the "Jake" of the Avengers...) Visser One: Jennifer Lopez (because she played Tyler's mom in Maid in Manhattan and they are adorable) Btw, everyone should go check out BloodRunsClear's fan trailer which is where I discovered that Wrath of Khan has good yeerks! • (Fake) Animorphs movie trailer ) Now, if you'd like some explanation of wtf is supposed to be going on in this ridiculous vid... Here we go. [spoilers for the series ahead ... ] Around 25 seconds in, I run you through the main three alien species the series deals with -- Hork Bajir, Yeerks, Taxxons... Then we've got the Andalite's blue box of alien-science morphing powers.. and then we have our heroes! Five teenage humans: Jake looks back on the simple days when all he wanted was to live up to his brother's legacy and make the school basketball team. And flirt awkwardly and innocently with Cassie. Cassie shown in front of a recycling poster that she probably hung on the school wall herself. Cassie who is best friends with Rachel. Rachel who loves her two little sisters, but who is now slowly losing herself to violence and chaos, who was once curious about that spacey loner-kid, Tobias. Tobias who had a lonely, troubled childhood, who always has his head in the clouds, who looks up to and wants to connect with Jake. Jake who is best friends with Marco, the wise-cracking strategist of the group, who... well, he really just misses his mom, whom he thought had died, but whom has actually fallen under the control of his worst enemy, the yeerks. ...!!! (The others find out about this in the books where they all morph hammerhead sharks.) Then we have their main battle-mode morphs - the tiger, the wolf, the bear, the gorilla, the hawk. We've got blink-and-you-miss-him-Visser Three played by Agent Smith, I mean The Red Skull, I mean Hugo Weaving. And we have Ax, the lost andalite, acquiring his human morph, a composite of his five new friends, and it is human perfection! After that, I focus a little on the main canon ships... Rachel and Tobias bond while simultaneously losing touch with life as they once knew it... Jake and Cassie are nostalgic and sweet. (Cassie's first day experimenting with morphing powers, she became a horse just for fun.) Jake mourns for his Controller brother Tom, while Ax mourns for his older brother Elfangor. ...And lots of shit goes down? The Crayak unleashes the Howlers, and Jake and Cassie ruin their perfectly innocent evil by imparting them with the memory of a wistful, desperate kiss. And at the very end, Rachel dies, and in her last moments, the Ellimist reveals everything to her. Tobias, Marco, Cassie, and Jake mourn in their own unique ways, and each tries to move on in the post-war-world. But they can't, really. And oh, god, that's supposed to say "Intro" not "Into" at the end. (Although, I guess I sort of like "into" as a poetic way of saying the same thing... lol)
