There are basically 5 kinds of motorcycle coverages for Motorcycles. Here is what each of the 5 coverages cover and what my Insurance on my 2023 Ninja 650 are. 1. Motorcycle liability coverage is almost always required by most states. It pays out for others' injuries or damages if you cause an accident. The lowest amount of liability insurance you must buy for your motorcycle is the same as your state’s car insurance minimum requirements 2. Comprehensive coverage helps cover the cost of damages to your motorcycle when you're involved in an accident that's not caused by a collision. Comprehensive coverage covers losses like theft, vandalism, hail, and hitting an animal. For example, if you are driving and hit a deer, the damage would be covered under comprehensive coverage. 3. Collision Coverage If your motorcycle is damaged because of a collision with another object, such as a car, tree or building, collision insurance pays for repairs. Keep in mind, collision insurance doesn’t cover damage you cause to someone else’s property. Your liability insurance is for damage you do to others. 4. Uninsured motorist coverage, referred to as UM or UMBI, is a type of motorcycle insurance that can pay for medical expenses if you or your passengers are injured in an auto accident caused by: • A driver who doesn’t have any liability car insurance. • A hit-and-run driver. • A driver whose insurance company denies coverage or goes out of business. 5. Underinsured motor vehicle coverage helps pay for the costs of an accident when you’re not at fault, even when the driver of the other car has liability insurance, but doesn’t have enough to cover the full extent of the damages caused by the accident.
