The new distress signal came from a planet called Xylos, an arid and desolate world, with vast stretches of eroded rocks and sparse, stunted vegetation. Upon landing, Kael felt a mix of hope and caution. The landscape was hostile, but a sepulchral silence enveloped the place. There were no signs of life, not even the whisper of the wind among the rocks. As Kael ventured into the desert, he discovered the remains of a civilization that had once flourished. The ruins of labyrinthine cities rose among the rocks, their intricate and geometric structures now covered in sand and dust. He found strange artifacts, tools, and engravings that told the story of an ingenious and resilient people. But the desolation was palpable. There were no bodies, no skeletons, no traces of violence. Simply, the total absence of life. Kael found a large central complex, where a flickering hologram showed images of the Arcturians. They were tall, slender beings with bluish skin and large, bright eyes. They seemed stoic and wise. The hologram showed the last days of the Arcturians on Xylos. A devastating drought had begun to plague the planet, the scarce springs were drying up, and the air was becoming unbreathable due to sandstorms. The Arcturians, aware of their imminent extinction, had decided to abandon Xylos in a last, desperate search for a new home. Kael felt a lump in his throat. History was repeating itself, but this time there was a slight difference. The Arcturians had had the opportunity to escape, to seek a new beginning. Had they succeeded? Had they found a place where they could thrive again? The distress signal that Kael had received was weak, intermittent. Perhaps it was a last vestige of the Arcturians, an echo of their existence in some distant corner of the universe. Kael decided to follow the signal, no matter where it led him. The search for the Arcturians had become his mission, a way to redeem his failure on Arcturus IV and to find a purpose in the immensity of the cosmos. With his spaceship ready for takeoff, Kael said goodbye to Xylos, a planet of austere beauty and deep sadness. The desert, now silent, faded into the distance. Kael ventured into the vacuum of space, hoping to find a trace of the Arcturians and give them a second chance.
