Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Hanswijkbasiliek in Mechelen

Tijdens ons bezoekje aan Mechelen, gingen we ook een kijkje nemen in de mooie Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Hanswijkbasiliek. De barokke Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Hanswijkkerk (1663-1681) werd opgetrokken naar ontwerp van beeldhouwer-architect Lucas Faydherbe. De kerk is uniek door haar uitzonderlijk grondplan die bestaat uit een combinatie van een centraalbouw met koepel en een traditionele driebeukige ‘basilica’. Het onderste gedeelte van de voorgevel werd in 1780 afgewerkt. De voltooiing van de geveltop liet tot 1854 op zich wachten. Het is ook een bedevaartsoord. Elk jaar komen er nog veel toeristen en bedevaarders de basiliek bezoeken. Ze komen omwille van het Maria-bedevaartsoord, omwille van de prachtige preekstoel, de unieke bas-reliëfs net onder de koepel, het merkwaardig labyrint in het vloerpatroon, omwille van het uitzonderlijk mooi monument dat deze Basiliek in zijn geheel is. De basiliek van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Hanswijk is sedert november 2016 weer in gebruik genomen na een grondige restauratie van 3 jaar. The baroque Our Lady of Hanswijk Church (1663-1681) was built to the design of sculptor-architect Lucas Faydherbe. The lower part of the façade was finished in 1780. The completion of the gable end took until 1854. It is also a place of pilgrimage. Every year many tourists and pilgrims still come to visit the basilica. They come because of the Marian pilgrimage site, because of the beautiful pulpit, the unique bas-reliefs just under the dome, the remarkable labyrinth in the floor pattern, because of the exceptionally beautiful monument that this Basilica is in its entirety.
