I was going to leave visiting Bradwell in the Peak District to later on in the series but today my young Grandson had an inset day and was off school and knew that Bradwell had two well maintained and excellent playparks so now was the ideal time to go back and visit the village...Bradwell has probably got the most concentrated varieties of Archaeological Ages in such a small village in the White Peak part of the Peak National Park...Artefacts have been found there from Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Roman, Saxon and Medieval eras...Imagine my delight when my boss and friend the Famous Archaeologist John Barnatt asked me to take part in a dig at Brough which is only a stones throw away from Bradwell in 1980...I had built my hopes up cos my only real interest is Neolithic/Bronze Age and was a little peeved that it was going to be a Roman dig...The dig was actually quite interesting even though Roman History isn't for me and a Roman altar was uncovered but it wasn't me who found it...Enough of my babbling cos I was trying to explain this to my Grandson but getting himself dizzy on a roundabout was more fun, and who can blame him...I did manage to get him to visit some historic places in Bradwell like the oldest pub the White Hart built in 1676 and the church of St. Barnabas...In the Domesday Book of 1086 William Peverel the Norman Knight was listed as being the Lord and Tenant-in-chief of Bradwell which then had a population of only 8 villagers...Many years later the village began to grow because of Lead Mining...I love Bradwell and I loved spending the day with my Grandson even though he probably thinks his Grandad is a boring Old Git...I hope you enjoy my Music called Peak Past...Thanks for Watching and Listening...Les.
