This is not just a colorful parade — it is a living folk theater filled with symbolism, history, and emotion. The main characters of the carnival are I Belli (“The Beautiful Ones”) and I Brutti (“The Ugly Ones”). The Belli wear elegant costumes and finely carved wooden masks, representing wealthy men returning home. The Brutti appear in rough clothing made of burlap and straw, with heavy cowbells tied around their waists, symbolizing hardship, labor, and the raw spirit of mountain life. The deep sound of bronze bells echoes through narrow stone streets, smoke rises from chimneys, and the alpine winter light creates a truly cinematic atmosphere.
