Join me for a big day out riding from Dawlish to Dartmoor and back — taking on the Haytor Vale climb, looping around the high moor, and finishing with some surprising wildlife and classic Devon flood navigation! I start in Dawlish, climb over Teignmouth Golf Course, and head toward Bovey Tracey before tackling the 340m ascent up Haytor Vale, a proper gateway into Dartmoor. The scenery on the moor is stunning — frosty ground, clear skies, and incredible views of the tors. After a fast descent, I join the Stover Cycle Trail into Newton Abbot, revisiting the area that was completely flooded two weeks ago. This time the diversion is open — and I even spot (what I thought was) an otter eating a fish… but zooming in later, I think it might actually be a seal! 👉 Let me know in the comments what you think — otter or seal? The ride ends with a flooded lane on the road back to Dawlish. It looked deep, but the “rowing technique” saved the day and my feet stayed dry! A crisp, sunny late-November ride — and yes, I’m starting to wonder whether a road bike might be a good idea… Activity on Strava: / strava --- Follow me on Strava: / strava Equipment: Bike: Boardman ADV 8.9 Camera: Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 Mic: DJI Mic Mini
