Literally like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Blairtum House is now a prestigious housing development in Rutherglen. Originally an archetypal Victorian Sandstone Villa built in the late 1800’s, it was purchased by the Council to be a care facility or older people then provided supported accommodation for young people. Surplus to requirements and failing to sell because of the economic downturn it lay derelict and attracted anti social behaviour even after it was purchased by developers in 2012. This film looks at the challenges that lay ahead both for the Rosewood Homes, Crawford Architectural Design Services and South Lanarkshire Council Planners to save this iconic listed building and transform it to what it is today - Winner of the Place category in the Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning 2018.
