Yesterday, Beau and I joined some of our CDX training friends at B.A.D., Breakaway Action Dogs, to work on our skills in a new place. Same dogs, new environment meant that all of us could work on the individual skills and behaviors we need but without the added stress of a show or run-through. One of us is struggling with keeping the dog motivated, another is struggling with a dog that leaves the ring in search of a ball, another just wants to work in new places, and I am working with Beau on keeping his enthusiasm in check (technically, not the worst problem I could have with an obedience dog) and teaching him to settle quickly regardless of the location. We all did really well and it was a fun experience for everyone. The facility is great and we were able to get a few runs done in the time we had, with pairs of handlers splitting the time per ring and acting as judge for the other. I have to admit my ring partner plays judge much better than I do. After we left, I decided that I would take the long way home avoiding highways. As my Granny would have said, “take the pretty way home”, and indeed it was pretty. Lots of gorgeous farmland, dramatic skies, birdsong - just wonderful! We passed a little farm stand so I turned around and went back so Beau could get a treat. He enjoyed a pup cup and romp in the grass and we both enjoyed the sunshine and the breeze. It was a perfect way to spend the day and I didn’t want it to end. But, ended it did and I came home with a very happy and very tired doggo. Thanks for watching!! ☀️🐾🐾🩵
