From the Opera Theatre stage of the Sydney Opera House, here is the scene in Act II of Bizet's CARMEN between Carmen and Don José commencing with "Je vais danser en votre honneur" through the famous tenor aria "La fleur que tu m'avais jetée" to just before the entrance of Zuniga. Opera Australia presented this particualr production in multiple performances with multiple casts over a short few years. The original Carmen was the French-Canadian mezzo-soprano Huguette Tourangeau and she was followed by Heather Begg and Margreta Elkins the same year. The Don José's included the fine American tenor, Ronald Stevens, the Australian house tenor, Donald Smith, and a very young understudy - Geoffrey Harris. This performance from August 7th 1976 is conducted by Richard Bonynge.
