Varanga Jain Temple - Jain Piligrim Centre I Udupi Tourism I Near Agumbe Varanga is a small village in Hebri Taluk in Udupi district. Varanga is the sacred pilgrimage of the Jains. The main attractions of Varanga are Neminatha Basadi, Chandranatha Basadi, and Kere Basadi. Kere Basadi being over 850 years old, the Neminatha Basadi being 1200 years old and the Chandranatha Basadi being 1000 years old, there surely is a lot of historical significance attached to this place. This 12th-century temple is situated amidst of a lake giving it the name Kere Basadi (lake temple). This basadi is also called as Jalamandir. The temple is also known Chaturmukha Basadi as it houses a chaturmukha (four-faced) idol of tirthankaras The only way to reach this Basadi in Varanga is in a small wooden boat.The ticket per head is Rs. 10. Neminatha Basadi: Neminatha Basadi is 1200 years. This basadi was constructed during the reign of Varanga Raya. The Neminatha Basadi is popularly called as Here Basadi which means Big Temple. Chandranatha Basadi: Chandranath Basadi is another important Basadi of Varanga. This basadi is also called as Matada Basadi because it houses the Jain Mutt. Varanga is about 76 kms from Mangalore, is around 39 kms from Udupi, about 372 kilometers from the Bangalore.
