My niece and I took a self-guided tour of the Birch Aquarium in San Diego (https://aquarium.ucsd.edu), which is rated as being among the Top 20 aquariums in the U.S. The aquarium is also known as the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography because it's the public outreach center for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, located specifically in beautiful La Jolla. The aquarium covers over 60,000 square feet and its display tanks have over 175,000 gallons of seawater. It features over 3,000 animals representing 380 species. More than 500,000 people a year visit the Birch Aquarium, which features exhibits both inside and outside.
