After searching all day, we found her—a small, frail pup with a swollen belly and an open wound on her tail, infested with ants and parasites. She was rushed to the vet, where tests revealed heart failure and fluid buildup in her abdomen. The vets drained 1 liter of fluid but noted she would need ongoing treatment, including medication for life. Despite her fear, she cooperated, though her sad, fearful eyes revealed deep emotional scars. Day 11 We visited daily to gain her trust. Though her tail was healing well, she remained stiff and distant, unable to relax or enjoy affection. Day 20 Her swollen belly had gone down, and her health improved, but her spirit was still heavy. She avoided eye contact and showed little trust in anyone. Day 30 After being discharged from the vet, we brought her home to a warm, safe environment.
