(23 Jan 1998) T/I: 10:16:24 At least 108 patients have been injected with a medical fluid possibly contaminated by the protein which causes Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease (CJD) - the human form of mad cow disease. The radioactive reagent, necessary for investigating heart and lung ailments, was made in Britain. One of the pool of donors has since died of variant of CJD. Staff from the six hospitals where the product was known to have been used were last night scrambling to trace affected patients. The largest number of patients with access to the medical kits were treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kowloon.
