On this video, I take you over the Port Weller and the entrance / exit of the Welland Canal. John. D. Leitch is the ship today. I managed to get into Port Weller just in time as she was exiting lock 1. She gently sails past me and passes by the on coming Federal Shimanto that is making it's way to lock 1. Once John. D. Leitch is out on lake Ontario I get another shot of this great looking ship, but due to weather, lighting or water conditions, the ship looked like a toy on a pond. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video. Nigel. John. D. leitch features a square forward superstructure and a front unloading boom, which sets it apart from traditional Great Lakes freighters. This unique design makes it easily recognizable among other ships. John D. Leitch is a self-discharging bulk carrier that was built in St. Catharines, Ontario, in 1967. Specifically, it was built to accommodate the Upper Lake Group’s first contract to carry coal for Ontario Hydro
