Angénieux Unveils the Future of Cinematic Glass at BSC In a recent appearance at the BSC trade show, Arnaud Esbelin, Marketing and Communication lead at Angénieux, shared exciting updates on the brand's legendary cinema lenses. Known for its prestigious "Angénieux look," the French manufacturer showcased a range of high-performance optics designed for the next generation of full-frame and large-format cinematography. The Star of the Show: Optimo Ultra 12X The most significant announcement was the introduction of the Optimo Ultra 12X (also referred to as the Optimo Ultra 12). This long-range zoom lens has been specifically optimized for the massive sensor of the Alexa 265. Focal Length: 46mm to 556mm [01:12] Aperture: T5.6 Image Circle Coverage: An impressive 60mm [01:07] Customization Redefined: Optimo Prime Series The Optimo Prime Series continues to set the standard for modularity with its Integrated Optical Palette (IOP) Technology. A Lens for Every Look: This series includes 12 focal lengths (18mm to 200mm). Innovative Customization: With the IOP Tooling Set, cinematographers can quickly swap internal components—such as interchangeable irises (9-blade, 3-blade, or oval)—to achieve a variety of artistic effects, including front anamorphic-style bokeh and flares. Creative Freedom: The series also supports internal filters like Black Pro-Mist, "Net Optics" for a classic soft-focus look, and a "Clear" optic for DIY experimentation. Compact Versatility: Optimo Ultra Compact Zooms Esbelin also highlighted the Optimo Ultra Compact zooms, particularly the 37-102mm full-frame lens. These compact lenses feature Angénieux’s proprietary IRO (Interchangeable Rear Optics) technology, allowing them to cover the open-gate format on the Alexa 35 [00:32]. A Legacy of Excellence Whether it’s the high-end Optimo Primes or the versatile Type EZ and Legacy Series, Angénieux remains a leader in the cinema market, offering tools that blend decades of engineering expertise with the flexibility modern filmmakers demand.
