Of the last 40 dogs I have worked with for chasing livestock, collectively they have probably been responsible for around 150 to 200 incidents of chasing/worrying. Not one of these incidents had been reported to police or the NFU, although farmers have been compensated for many. What is the actual benefit in increasing the financial penalty for a law that you clearly cannot enforce? Why is an owner going to confess to something just so that they can receive a heavier penalty or the destruction of their dog for doing so, when they could simply walk away unnoticed? To rely so heavily upon heavier punishments will achieve absolutely nothing in terms of ‘actual reductions’ in attacks. It just sounds good to the public. Stakeholders should be shaking the hands and following the example of owners like these. ACTIVELY TRAINING DOGS TO BE AFRAID OF CHASING AND ATTACKING SHEEP USING QUALITY ELECTRONIC TRAINING COLLARS UNDER QUALITY SUPERVISION SAVES THE LIVES OF BOTH. Train for certainty, restrain for courtesy. 150-200 UNREPORTED incidents, just from 40 dogs. Let that give you an indication as to the TRUE extent of this issue.
