WhiskyJason reviews Mortlach 25 years old Gordon & MacPhail Distillery Labels with 46% Single Malt Scotch Whisky This Mortlach 25 belongs to the 'Distillery Labels' series of Gordon & MacPhail which was allowed to mature in sherry casks, and it was bottled at drinking strength with 46% alcohol. This 'Distillery Labels' series features individual distilleries, some of which Gordon & MacPhail has worked with for over a century. Gordon & Macphail is probably one of the most renowned independent bottlers in Scotland with a company history of over 120 years. Special feature: G&M usually does not buy already filled barrels, but the New Make of the distilleries and fills this in their own barrels. Mortlach was founded in 1823, making it the oldest legal distillery in Dufftown. Mortlach is known for its distillation process, which was developed by Alexander Cowie at the end of the 19th century. In this process, the distillate is separated several times and redistilled to certain parts, so that one comes to the arithmetically 2.81 times distillation.
