Continuing the Post Underground Release Trilogy, we’re taking a sharp detour, literally, into one of the most unexpected Tony Hawk games ever made: Downhill Jam. After covering Project 8, this retrospective dives into a game that completely broke from tradition, trading open-world exploration and technical combos for arcade-style racing, power-ups and rival knockouts. It was fast and very different. Some fans loved it. Most skipped it. But it definitely left a mark. In this video, I take a close look at Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam: how it plays, what makes it so different, and whether it holds up today. I played the PS2 version I own the disc for via emulation, which skips the Wii’s motion controls and offers a smoother experience overall. Was Downhill Jam an underrated gem, or just a curious misstep in the Tony Hawk legacy? Have you played this one before? Wii, PS2, or DS? I’d love to hear your thoughts and memories in the comments.
