The main challenge is that each liposarcoma presents differently. First, surgeons must accurately assess the disease's extent and its relationship with surrounding organs. The approach generally involves resecting nearby organs, even if not overtly invaded, but with careful judgment based on the potential morbidity for the patient. Typical resections may involve the colon, kidney, and posterior muscles, but in more complex cases, the surgery might require additional resection of the diaphragm, pancreas, spleen, pelvic organs, or bladder. The key difficulty lies in applying a standardized technique while adapting to the specific disease presentation, which may not always be clear from operative images.
