THE BEST Cagayan de Oro Sights & Landmarks CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY featuring THE NEW CDO AMPHITHEATRE 2022 The much-needed restoration of the amphitheater in Plaza Divisoria, generally known to all Kagay-anons as "Amphi," a renowned cultural and historical monument of Cagayan de Oro city, has now been completed and opened to public last February 28, 2022. Designed by Kitz Gomonit, an Architect, and the BDU team led by Architect Anne Pabito and all the Architects and engineers of DPWH Region 10, Planning and Design Division under Project Lunhaw. Located at Plaza Divisoria which is situated in the heart of the city.The new Cagayan de Oro Amphitheater was inspired by the mythological fish named ORO, a huge fish with sparkling golden scales. The structure's façade mimics the mouth wide open of a colossal fish, while the roofing material used at the back of the structure was designed to resemble golden fish scales. Whereas the sailing boat in front of the amphitheater lacked the waves which was part of the original proposed design to provide the impression of a handshake that resembled a gondola for river rafting. Designed by Architect Joaries Lao. The Amphitheater was ones the city's replica of Manila's Plaza Miranda. The original Cagayan de Oro Amphitheater was built in 1958 by the city's beloved mayor Justinano R. Borja. It served as the focal point for all significant civic, cultural, and political events in the city. In 2010, when Attorney Constantino Jaraula served as mayor, it was demolished.
