Tutorial: How to Make better Underwater Videos - Liquid Motion® Underwater CInematography & Filming

Welcome to the Underwater Videography & Filmmaking School! In this tutorial, we talk about how to make better underwater videos! How do you make better underwater videos? Firstly, from go-pro to RED, if you want to get really cinematic underwater footage you need to work on controlling your underwater lighting. So I'll begin this series of underwater videography tutorials by talking about the importance of underwater lighting and what the most important features are for choosing an underwater light. With the correct use of underwater lighting, you will learn how to bring your story to life, as well as about how to use key lights, fill lights, background lights, negative space and hair lights. You'll learn about backlighting the subject, ambient underwater light, the minimum lights you should use, and how to choose the right lights for your underwater camera, amongst many other things! Similarly, you will learn how to take into account things such as cost of underwater lights, your beam angle, colour temperature, degrees kelvin, and adjustable colour temperature. Next, you will learn about wide angle and macro underwater videography, colour temperature blending and foregrounds & backgrounds. You will discover the different filters for underwater lights and underwater cameras, and about modifying your colour temperature. And, I will share the pros and cons of certain light batteries, as well as their power, brightness, battery packs and burn time. This first in a series of tutorials about Underwater Filmmaking, Underwater Cinematography and Underwater Videography is a great introduction into how to get better results when shooting film underwater, and how to really make better underwater films by using and controlling the element of light.
