Όποιος επισκέπτεται για πρώτη φορά το προσκύνημα εντυπωσιάζεται από τη θέση του πάνω στο βράχο καθώς και από την ομορφιά του τοπίου. Μία κλίμακα με 150 σκαλοπάτια ενώνει το Ιερό Προσκύνημα με το δημόσιο δρόμο. Υπάρχει όμως και μία δεύτερη οδός από τον Κυπαρισσώνα. Μόλις ο επισκέπτης, πλησιάσει τα κράσπεδα του Ναού, παρατηρεί εντός του βράχου ένα μικρό σπήλαιο. Κατά την παράδοση εκεί ήταν το ασκητήριο του Καπετάνιου - Ναυαγού που βρήκε την εικόνα. Αν όμως ο θαυμασμός του προσκυνητή είναι μεγάλος από την ομορφιά του περιβάλλοντος χώρου, πολύ περισσότερο εντυπωσιάζεται όταν εισέρχεται στον Ιερό Ναό.
