A ride on board BC Ferries' Queen of Alberni, on the Nanaimo - Metro Vancouver (Duke Point - Tsawwassen) route. Filmed in the afternoon on July 23rd, 2025. On board, we explore the ship and get a chance to view the spectacular scenery of the various islands and mountain peaks. The Queen of Alberni was built in 1976 to replace older vessels in the fleet on the two major routes out of Horseshoe Bay, along with her other four sisters. Originally, it only had one vehicle deck (like the earlier 'V' Class vessels) as it was intended to carry primarily semi-truck traffic between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay (Victoria). It received a second vehicle deck during a refit (also for lengthening) in 1984 and became the primary vessel for the new 'mid-island express' route (originally between Tsawwassen and Departure Bay) due to its' higher capacity for semi-trucks than other ferries in the fleet. Duke Point terminal was built in 1997 to alleviate congestion issues at Departure Bay occurring from the combined service of both routes (2 to Horseshoe Bay and 30 to Tsawwassen).
