Join me on this solo adventure along the Nakasendo Trail (中山道)! Though off the beaten path from Japan's "typical" tourist destinations, if you like the outdoors/nature/hiking, this trail is something you have to visit! At that time there were 69 post towns scattered along the way for travelers to rest. On my journey, I stopped by two of the most preserved ones: Tsumago and Magome! While you can walk the 12-mile portion I walked (Nagiso Station to Nakatsugawa Station) in one day, I highly recommend staying overnight in Magome. The guest houses in the post towns are used to passing travelers and serve wonderful dinners and breakfasts to help replenish your energy. It's a great way to experience traditional Japan!
